We can deliver art programming to augment the services you deliver to young people. We work closely with you to understand the abilities and developmental needs of the population(s) you serve. Our selection, design, and facilitation of art activities is governed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Project Zero, Framework of Studio Thinking. This robust research-based organizing framework includes eight Studio Habits of Mind - sophisticated ways of thinking nurtured through making and consuming art. Art activities for young people are endless: narrative storytelling, collage, spoken word poetry, painting, memoir writing, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts, exploring the works of artists, and more!
Whether you are starting from scratch or evolving an existing art program, we're glad you are here because it means you are curious about making your youth art programming developmentally impactful! There is a lot to think about to create or transition your program including your program purpose, developmental goals, integration into your total model of care, studio management, instructional design, facilitation methods, materials, budgeting, and more. We can provide short-term guidance to help you on your way or longer-term supports to help you build and sustain a high-quality art program with measurable outcomes.
With limited budgets and competing priorities, we are all striving to do more with less. In the case of the arts, funding an art program may not be feasible for your organization. An alternate route is to equip current staff with the knowledge and skills to confidently facilitate art activities and support the creative development of young people. This is a distributed model that allows team members to incorporate the arts into their routine work with your youth. It is also an attractive path for organizations without formal art programs who want to integrate the arts into their portfolio of services.
Youth work is a rewarding yet chronically stressful profession resulting in burnout and high staff turnover - both of which can compromise the quality of care your organization delivers. In addition to traditional methods of supporting the productivity, health, and stability of your workforce, you might consider adding arts programming to your toolkit. The arts are well-established as a vehicle for adult self-reflection, stress management, and self-care. We can help with art-based wellness events or working through the steps to thoughtfully and sustainably weave the arts into your workforce wellness strategies.
The arts can also be deployed strategically to accelerate the development of teams and team members - especially emerging and maturing leaders. If you are looking for fresh ways to increase capacity and boost performance, the arts can add rocket fuel to legacy methodologies. We can be a sounding board to check your thinking about the arts and adult learning and development. If you are already convinced that the arts belong in your repertoire, we can help you make smart choices about the arts and talent development.
